BAYSHORE MARATHON: FOUNDED IN 1983 BY LOCAL RUNNING ENTHUSIASTS WHO WANTED TO SHARE THE BEAUTY OF THE GRAND TRAVERSE REGION AND THE OLD MISSION PENINSULA, THE BAYSHORE MARATHON HAS BECOME A MUST RUN FOR RUNNERS THROUGHOUT THE MIDWEST AND BEYOND. MANY RUNNERS RETURN YEAR AFTER YEAR TO ENJOY THE SCENIC COURSES WHICH RUN ALONG THE SHORES OF BEAUTIFUL GRAND TRAVERSE BAY. BAYSHORE EVENTS FEATURE A 10K, HALF MARATHON AND FULL MARATHON. SOME OF THE PAST RECIPIENTS INCLUDE: TRAVERSE CITY AREA PUBLIC SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY AND TRACK & FIELD PROGRAMS, GRAND TRAVERSE AREA CATHOLIC SCHOOLS, GRAND TRAVERSE ACADEMY, TART TRAILS INC., NORTH AMERICAN VASA, CITY OF TRAVERSE CITY HICKORY HILLS, MT. HOLIDAY, THE MUNSON HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION'S CANCER PATIENT CARE NEEDS FUND, PENINSULA TOWNSHIP, THE GRAND TRAVERSE CONSERVATION DISTRICT, AND THE SEEDS ECOLOGY AND EDUCATION CENTERS. TRAVERSE CITY TRACK CLUB ALSO ESTABLISHED AN ENDOWMENT WITH THE GRAND TRAVERSE REGIONAL COMMUNITY FOUNDATION, AND THE NORTHWESTERN MICHIGAN COLLEGE NMC FOUNDATION WHICH WILL FUND GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS FOR MANY YEARS TO COME. SCHOLARSHIPS: THE TRAVERSE CITY TRACK CLUB IS DEDICATED TO SUPPORT STUDENTS FOR WHOM THE MISSION OF OUR ORGANIZATION IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THEIR LIVES THAT THEY RECEIVE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO CONTINUE TO DEVELOP THEIR TALENTS AND EXCEL IN HIGHER EDUCATION. THE SCHOLARSHIP IS AVAILABLE TO GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS OR CURRENT COLLEGE STUDENTS FROM ANTRIM, BENZIE, GRAND TRAVERSE, KALKASKA, OR LEELANAU COUNTIES. THESE OUTSTANDING TCTC SCHOLARS RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS UP TO $4,000 TO PURSUE HIGHER EDUCATION AT COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES ACROSS THE NATION.
