THE ACES INITIATIVE IN MICHIGAN WILL TRAIN THOSE WHO INTERACT WITH CHILDREN ON A REGULAR BASIS, INCLUDING SOCIAL WORKERS, TEACHERS, COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKERS AND PARENTS TO UNDERSTAND BEHAVIORS THAT EXEMPLIFY ACES. THIS AWARENESS WILL HELP CHILDREN RECEIVE ASSISTANCE FROM FAMILIAR FACES WITHIN THE COMMUNITY.THE CDC-KAISER PERMANENTE ADVERSE CHILDHOOD EXPERIENCES (ACE) STUDY IS ONE OF THE LARGEST INVESTIGATIONS OF CHILDHOOD ABUSE AND NEGLECT. DR. ROBERT ANDA CO-AUTHORED THIS RESEARCH THAT DEMONSTRATED HOW ADULTS WHO EXPERIENCED ABUSE AND NEGLECT, GROWING UP WITH DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, SUBSTANCE ABUSE, MENTAL ILLNESS OR OTHER STRESSES COULD NEGATIVELY ALTER A CHILD'S GENES AND BRAIN.THE MAHP FOUNDATION WORKS WITH A VARIETY OF HEALTH, SOCIAL WELFARE AND EDUCATION GROUPS IN COLLABORATION WITH STATE AGENCIES TO GROW THE BASIS OF THIS ACES GRANT. THE GRANT ALLOWS THESE PARTNERSHIPS TO EXAMINE HOW OTHER STATES ARE ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE AND HOW MICHIGAN CAN RAISE AWARENESS USING DR. ANDA'S FINDINGS. THE GOAL IS TO EDUCATE AND TRAIN THE COMMUNITY TO BETTER IDENTIFY SIGNS OF ACES IN CHILDREN AND HELP CREATE COMMUNITY BASED INTERVENTIONS.MICHIGAN ACE INITIATIVE CONFERENCE WAS HELD ON MAY 8, 2025. THE CONFERENCE ADDRESSED THE MOST CURRENT INFORMATION ON ACES AND THE INTERSECTIONS WITH EQUITY. THE CONFERENCE ALSO PROVIDED CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS FOR SOCIAL WORKERS, TEACHERS, AND ADMINISTRATORS
