Girls on the Run of Southeastern Michigan is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. We improve the well-being of girls through a suite of research-based, intentionally designed curriculum with evidence of impact. Dynamic lessons instill valuable life skills, including the important connection between physical and emotional health, allowing Girls on the Run to make a stronger impact than organized sports and physical education in teaching life skills like managing emotions, resolving conflict, helping others, and making intentional decisions that has a lasting impact in the community through positive social, emotional, and physical health outcomes. Our program is led by trained volunteer coaches and explores core topics relevant to 8- to 14 year-old girls, including understanding emotions, fostering friendships, and expressing empathy. Girls on the Run of Southeastern Michigan was founded in 2001 to serve five counties here in southeastern Michigan - Washtenaw, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston and Monroe. Over the last 23 years weve served more than 26,000 girls and provided need-based scholarships to over 8,000 local families. In this fiscal year, we awarded over $134,000 in financial assistance to 851 families, and 244 pairs of athletic shoes, leggings and socks to children in need.
