In 2024, Whittier Alliance continued its renter support work, brought neighbors together through a variety of free events, continued the 2116 Nicollet partnership project, and brought on a new Executive Director. WAs renter support work was led by two outreach staff members, one focusing on outreach and support within the Latin community and one focusing on the Somali community. They supported renters in communicating with landlords during disputes, finding new housing, and filing for rental assistance programs. WA hosted free monthly community dinners throughout 2024 with a variety of informational programming, ranging from voting information to addressing community safety concerns. We also co-hosted a series of trainings centered around helping residents better understand development processes, with a ocus on the New Nicollet site. We also continued to support City of Minneapolis staff in their engagement efforts around New Nicollet in 2024. Our work to establish new deeply affordable housing and office space for our organization and Alliance Housing continued with seeking funding for the 2116 Nicollet project. Our former Executive Director departed in early 2024, and staff and board members collaborated to bring on a new Executive Director in May of 2024.
