THE 32ND ANNUAL SOLAR BOAT REGATTA WAS HELD AT RILEY LAKE TO EDUCATE MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL AGE STUDENTS ON HOW TO APPLY SOLAR ENERGY TO A FUN ACTIVITY. THE STUDENTS BUILT FULL SIZED, SOLAR POWERED BOATS AND SPENT THE DAY RACING THEM THROUGH THREE DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES. WE HAD ELEVEN BOATS RACE FROM NINE SCHOOLS FROM ALL OVER THE STATE. MORE THAN 131 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN LEARNING EXPERIENCE.

MRES WORKED WITH THE MINNESOTA POLLUTION CONTROL AGENCY TO TRAIN EIGHTY VOLUNTEERS TO STAFF THE ECO EXPERIENCE AREA OF THE MINNESOTA STATE FAIR. THE VOLUNTEERS EXPLAINED THE DIFFERENT SOLAR TECHNOLOGIES TO 218,354 PEOPLE DURING THE 12-DAY RUN OF THE STATE FAIR. A NEW EXHIBIT HELPED THE VOLUNTEERS EXPLAIN HOW PERSONAL ACTIONS EFFECT CO2 EMISSIONS AND CLIMATE CHANGE. THESE ACTIVITIES EDUCATE THE GENERAL PUBLIC ON HOW RENEWABLE ENERGY WORKS AND HOW THEY CAN PARTICIPATE IN ITS BENEFITS. THIS EDUCATION IS CONDUCTED IN SPANISH AND ENGLISH. WE FORMED RELATIONSHIPS WITH PASSIVE HOUSE MINNESOTA AND THE CLIMATE REALITY PROJECT FOR THIS ACTIVITY.
