Summary of ARED's Activities in 2024ARED (Associates in Research and Education for Development) continued its mission to promote equitable, bilingual education systems through programs focused on quality teaching, pedagogical innovation, and the integration of national languages in Senegal and the subregion.Below is a summary of our 2024 impact and key activities:1. Sukaabe Janngo ProjectOperating in five inspectorates in Kolda and Sdhiou, this project enhanced teacher capacity in writing and tutoring:-31 inspectors and 219 CE2 teachers trained-231 school principals and 216 Grade 5 teachers retrained on the writing project and coaching.-15 monitoring missions and 15 pedagogical days-750 teacher guides on the writing project -4,275 tutoring sessions for 3,044 students (including 1,604 girls)-100 tutoring guides-7,200 student booklets distributed-75 tutors and 68 school principals trained to support students using the tutoring approach developed by ARED.2. RELIT ProgramARED developed early grade reading materials in national languages for CI, CP and preschool:-12 CI guides and tools; 12 CP guides and 11 tools-Braille and e-learning resources-participation 38 training workshops-Participation in the development of training modules3. ANA Project- Field visit and stakeholder workshop held in Nouakchott to revise Phase I instructional materials4. Ndaw Wune Program anne scolaireAREDs flagship remedial program in reading and math:-4,000 students in 133 schools during school year-2,375 students touch supported during summer remediation-Harmonized remediation and bilingual math materials developed-200 tutors and 20 supervisors trained and mobilized for the implementation of tutoring during the school year.-2 student performance evaluation missions carried out.-3 pedagogical days organized.5. Programme Ndaw Wune vacances -2,375 students reached across 93 classrooms.-9 trainers and 93 tutors trained in the Ndaw Wune approach.-1 pedagogical day organized.-1 monitoring mission conducted.6. MOHEBS mathmatiques-Contribution to the development of mathematics teaching materials for the Cours dInitiation (CI) in Wolof, Pulaar, and Seereer.-Participation in the design and operationalization of the teacher training plan.-Production of a CI mathematics textbook adapted in Wolof, Pulaar, and Seereer, along with a teacher's user guide.7. LITES ProjectStudy of the impact of bilingual education policy in 60 schools (Kaolack and Matam) conducted on a sample of 1,200 students and 120 teachers, with 2 research reports produced.-An awareness-raising guide developed, translated, and locally adapted.-A set of 26 image cards distributed to enhance classroom engagement.8.
