Metropolitan Interfaith Council on Affordable Housing

MICAH launched our Speakers Bureau- We are your neighbors with up to 10 people who have experienced homelessness, housing instability or discrimination from the diversity of folks in our community. They have been presenting their stories, barriers to accessing resources and their solutions to Congregations, Minnesota Interagency Council on Homelessness meetings and at the State Capitol. This is coordinated by a MICAH Board Member, Linda Soderstrom and funded primarily through Catholic Campaign for Human Development MICAH in coordination with funding from the MN Department of Revenue launched community outreach and engagement on MN Child Tax Credit and other tax credit programs through our Trusted Messenger Model Program of people who have experienced homelessness, housing instability or discrimination matching the diversity of folks in the communities of focus. Over 2000 folks were contacted in North and NE Minneapolis and thousands of folks received information through our Constant Contact list and in our Chapter Meetings MICAH continues to provide leadership in Advocacy at State and local led by people who have experienced homelessness, housing instability or discrimination from the diversity of folks in our community. We expanded our Leadership in Homes for All, a Statewide Campaign, to provide a robust Continuum to Housing. In the 2023 Session over $5 Billion was appropriated to prevent homelessness, provide for immediate needs, resources and support, transitional, supportive and affordable rental housing and homeownership. MICAHs 6 Regional Chapters continue to grow in diversity and people affected by homelessness, housing instability or discrimination from the diversity of folks in our community. We conducted our annual virtual bus tours of programs in the community and virtual policy breakfast. We worked on continuum to housing opportunities in each regional chapter. MICAH expanded our work on Blue Line and Purple Line Transit Corridors to ensure people and small businesses are not displaced and that the stops on the routes meet peoples needs. 6. MICAH continues to play active roles in Leadership at the National Coalition For The Homeless and National Low Income Housing Coalition, as well as in the Poor Peoples Campaign.
