Marking-Microneedle Tattoo System: ACC&D is conducting research in collaboration with the Georgia Institute of Technology, which involves the use of microneedle patches to painlessly and quickly tattoo an animal's ear or abdomen. This project made significant progress in 2023. Beginning in May 2023, 7 veterinarians from the ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance applied microneedle patches to 97 cats and dogs, with owner consent, over 3 weeks. ACC&D surveyed applying veterinarians to obtain their feedback comparing the patch to the traditional score tattoo. We also worked to advance the microneedle patch design for use in the ear. In 2023, we conducted our first real world study with free-roaming cats. We sought to evaluate visibility and durability in a field setting, particularly where cats were exposed to high levels of UV light.
