THE POST EXISTS TO SERVE VETERANS IN THEIR VARIOUS CONCERNS AND ALLOWS THEM A CHANCE TO MEET WITH OTHER VETERANS. THE POST ALSO EXISTS AS AN EDUCATIONAL TOOL WHERE THEY CAN ASK QUESTIONS AND RECEIVE ANSWERS OR THEY CANB E SENT TO ANOTHER AGENCY TO HELP THEM. THE POST ALSO HAS A NEWSLETTER THAT WILL KEEP OUR VETERANS INFORMED ON WHAT IS HAPPENING THAT MAY AFFECT THEM.

Program Service Accomplishments

Program 1

THE UPKEEP OF THE BUILDING ALLOWS THE VETERANS A PLACE TO GATHER TOGETHER AND DISCUSS THEIR CONCERNS. EVERY VETERANS GROUP IN WINONA IS INVITED TO USE THE BUILDING FOR THEIR MEETINGS. OUR HONOR GUARD AND BURIAL DETAIL MEET HERE BEFORE GOING OUT INTO THE COMMUNITY AND GIVE OF THEIR TIME FOR FUNERALS AND COMMUNITY EVERNTS SUCH AS PARADES AND FLAG RAISINGS. THE BUILDING HAS STORAGE SPACE FOR THESE GROUPS. THERE ARE OVER 450 MEMBER WHO CAN RENT THE HALL FOR FUNERAL DINNERS, ANNIVERSARIES AND FAMILY WEDDINGS. THERE ARE REDUCED MEAL PRICES FOR FISH FRYS AND BASKET NIGHTS AND TACO DINNERS. THE BUILDING ALSO HAS SPACE FOR MEDICAL EQUIPMENT SUCH AS WHEEL CHAIRS, WALKERS, CANES, AND BEDS WHICH ARE USED AT NO COST.

THE LEGION ALSO PRINTS A NEWLETTER (THE WINDJAMMER) TO INFORM VETERANS ON WHAT IS HAPPENIING THAT MAY AFFECT THEM. THE WINDJAMMER IS MAILED OUT TO ALL THOSE WHO WISH TO RECEIVE A COPY.

THE LEGION ALSO SELLS FLAGS AND VETERAN CLOTHING SO OUR VETERANS CAN SHOW THEIR PRIDE IN OUR COUNTRY.
