Greenaction for Health and Environmental Justice works with dozens of communities and community partners to protect the health of vulnerable communities from pollution and to bring about positive changes in industry and government policies and practices to protect the environment and public health. Through our work we served hundreds of thousands of residents in urban, rural and indigenous communities. 1. We helped win victories to reduce or stop pollution through community education and civic engagement. 2.We successfully worked with diverse communities and residents to join us in engaging local, regional, state and federal government regulatory agencies to improve government policies and practices regarding pollution and environmental health and justice. This work included playing a lead role in facilitating the multi-stakeholder Bayview Hunters Point Environmental Justice Response Task Force which brings together residents, community groups, some businesses, and local, regional, state, and federal government agencies to work together to address pollution and environmental health concerns. 3.We empowered residents with skills and knowledge through organizing, technical expertise, and conducting Youth Environmental Justice Leadership Academy programs. 4. We conducted ongoing community air monitoring programs in low-income and working class communities impacted by air pollution, and made the data publicly available.
