THE 2022-2023 SEASON EXPERIENCED A DELAYED START, BUT WAS EXCITED TO CONTINUE WITH ITS NEXT DIVERSITY PROJECT FILM RECORDINGS OF ITS "I, TOO, SING AMERICA" VIDEO SERIES ON JANUARY 15, 2023. PART 2 (SAMUEL COLERIDGE TAYLOR) AND PART 3 (SHIRLEY GRAHAM DUBOIS) WERE PERFORMED AND FILMED IN FRONT OF A LIVE AUDIENCE TO ENTHUSIASTIC ACCLAIM. THESE PERFORMANCES BECAME PART OF THE "I, TOO, SING AMERICA" SERIES, COMPRISED OF FIVE 30-MINUTE VIDEOS HIGHLIGHTING EXCERPTS FROM OPERAS WRITTEN BY BLACK COMPOSERS OVER THE LAST 3 CENTURIES THAT WERE LOST DUE TO THE ENDEMIC RACISM IN THE OPERA WORLD. OPC'S RESEARCH IDENTIFIED BEAUTIFUL WORKS BY THESE COMPOSERS AND IS CURRENTLY WORKING TO DISTRIBUTE THE FILM SERIES TO MUSIC PROGRAMS WORLDWIDE TO NORMALIZE THIS MUSIC BOTH IN MUSIC SCHOOLS AND IN STANDARD OPERA COMPANY REPERTORY. MARCH 24 AND 26, 2023 WERE OPC PERFORMANCES OF GIUSEPPE VERDI'S UN BALLO IN MASCHERA, PERFORMED AS A CONCERT VERSION WITH PRINCIPAL ARTISTS FROM BOTH OUT OF STATE AND WITHIN OUR OWN REGION. OPC WELCOMED AWARD-WINNING CONDUCTOR WILLIAM BOGGS TO THE PODIUM FOR THIS PRODUCTION AND BOTH VOCAL AND INSTRUMENTAL PERFORMERS WERE EXCITED ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK WITH HIM. OPC WAS ALSO ESPECIALLY PLEASED TO HAVE FEATURED NUMEROUS STUDENT MUSICIANS IN THE ORCHESTRA FOR THE PERFORMANCES, CONTINUING DEDICATION TO FOSTERING OPPORTUNITIES OF MUSICAL ADVANCEMENT TO HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE STUDENTS WHO HAVE EXCELLED IN THEIR INSTRUMENTAL STUDIES.
