The English Language Development (ELD) program at the Taft School proved successful. Four of the nine students enrolled in the program for the full school year reclassified as Fully English Proficient on the spring ELPAC (Englsh Language Proficiency Assessment for California)(44% of HCT students reclassified as compared to 11% of students school-wide reclassified). As a result of this success, HCT has been asked to scale the program at Taft Elementary and replicate it at Garfield Elementary School (70% of the student population are English Language Learners)next school year.Partnerships with Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula (BGCP) and Menlo School provided 14 teen tutors to the ELD program at Taft and both partners have committed to doubling the number of teen tutors next year to serve Garfield School as well as continuing at Taft School.Successfully focused our attention on partnering with schools that have clear shared values, expectations and commitment to upholding the partnership as evidenced through positive feedback from teachers and administrators anecdotally and on our end -of-year assessments.Strengthened our digital feedback loops for teachers and tutors. Used this feedback to better support tutors with resource requests (worksheets, games, manipulatives) that enhance their tutoring sessions and tie them more closely to standards and classroom instruction.Deepened community partnerships within San Carlos and Redwood City. Participated in Week of the Child and Hometown Days (parade and festival) through partnerships with the Friends of the Library and the City of San Carlos as well as tabled at the Redwood City Farmers Market and provided a fun booth at the Taft Community Festival.
