INSTITUTE FOR ECONOMICS AND PEACE

Last year was a strong year for IEP in the US and across the Americas. We led or participated in over 92 different speaking engagements across the Financial Year reaching over 9,000 people, more than double that of the previous Financial Year. Our relationship with a number of strategic partners solidified, including World Vision International, Rotary International and the UN Office of Counterterrorism and several research contracts allowed us to expand our team while increasing our impact in the multilateral and global governance sphere, including among others the Multilateralism Index, the Global Governance Innovation Report and the Civilian Protection Index to name a few. This important work will continue over the coming year, building on the Positive Peace work and the many research Peace opportunities already in the pipeline. Global Peace IndexThe 18th edition of the Global Peace Index was released in June 2024. Several high-level presentations were held along with two core launch events in NY and DC, including multiple presentations in Spanish for Latin American audiences including partners in Argentina, Colombia, Canada and Panama as well as regional presentations such as Rotary Internationals Latin American Peace Symposium, attended by over 400 Rotarians from 25 countries. The NY launch event was hosted by the Italy Mission to the United Nations and attended by Ambassadors, Deputy Permanent Representatives and Charg dAffairs from Ireland, Iceland, Argentina, South Korea, Slovenia, US and Croatia among others, as well as senior representatives from the UN Secretariat.Global Terrorism IndexThe 11th edition of the Global Terrorism Index was released in March with a key launch event in DC followed by multiple strategic briefings for security sector partners across the U.S. and Canada. Ecological Threat ReportThe 4th edition of the Ecological Threat Report which analyses threats relating to food insecurity, water risk, demographic pressure and hazardous natural events was released in November 23, with now traditional launch events in NY and DC with participation from UN Member States, environmental groups, Development agencies and USAID. Mexico The launch of the 2024 Mexico Peace Index was a success, generating nearly 700 news articles and considerable traction across the country and the region. Notable events and presentations were held across the Mexican States of Jalisco, Sinaloa, Queretaro, and Guerrero where there are many opportunities to contribute to policy work next year. In fact, IEP this year already delivered on two separate projects for the State Government of Jalisco, including Positive Peace work in the cities of Ahualulco and Cocula in support of their municipal peace councils and strategies. This work will be expanded over the coming year and offers the unique opportunity to incorporate Positive Peace in the State's development plans.Positive PeaceIEPs Annual Positive Peace Conference was held at Stanford University and with participation from the public as well as strategic, academic, and private sector partners. Positive Peace workshops were delivered across the US including North Nashville and The Westside of Chicago and other neighborhoods with historically high levels of gun violence. Internationally, IEP delivered several positive Peace workshops and consultations for partner organizations including World Vision and Rotary International, both of who continue to integrate Positive Peace as central to their peacebuilding frameworks. PartnershipsThroughout the year, IEP has continued to support Rotary International, World Vision and the UN Office of Counterterrorism in the socialization and implementation of Positive Peace, contributing additional research as needed including, among other efforts, an analysis of measures of child vulnerability globally.
