Mission

Union City Music Project (UCMP) is a non-profit organization that provides low-cost orchestral training, music therapy, choir, visual arts, private lessons and regular performance opportunities to Hudson County children and youth. UCMP's After School Music Program is based on El Sistema, a transformative orchestral music program created by Venezuelan Jos Antonio Abreu in 1975. Through an immersive, cooperative, and fun-filled learning environment that integrates parental involvement, our pre-K-to-12th-grade program inspires academic excellence, enhances life skills, and builds community. Union City Music Project helps Hudson County's pre-K-to-12th-grade children and youth by: (1) providing free instruments and low-cost orchestral/vocal instruction ($2/hour) by professional musicians;(2) engaging parents in their childs music education; (3) cultivating self-esteem, self-expression, and teamwork; and (4) improving academics and behavior and increasing high school graduation and college e
