Kitten Central is the only organization of its kind in our area that provides a complete medical fostering program for orphaned neonatal kittens 28 days or younger. Our very intensive critical care can include medically administered lifesaving fluids, breathing/nebulizing treatments, glucose stabilization, abscess drainage/dressing, forced feedings and administering medications. Sometimes kittens come to us so young and sick that all we can offer them are warm loving arms to hold them while they pass, a responsibility we take on willingly.Every year local rescues and shelters are inundated with unwanted kittens. We offer our specialized services to those rescues and shelters that are unable to provide the intensive care that these critical little ones need to survive. Without our organization, these kittens would have to be euthanized.Since our inception, our partnership with our local municipal shelter, Placer County Animal Services, has enabled them to reduce their kitten euthanasia rate to 0%. As a result of these dramatic results, Placer SPCA and the Sacramento County Animal Care and Regulation also signed up as clients in 2017 to reduce their euthanasia rates.Once kittens are accepted into the program, under the direction of our Medical Director, Patricia Colley, DVM, MPVM, Kitten Central provides individualized care in highly trained foster homes that includes a complete age appropriate medical protocol. Kittens remain in the program until they have completed this medical protocol, have been tested for Leukemia, spayed or neutered, microchipped, and have received a medical adoption clearance exam from one of our licensed Veterinarian Partners. At that time, the kittens are returned to the sponsoring rescue with a complete medical history for a healthy adoption.
