ACTIVE LIFESTYLE EVENTS INC, founded in 2012, is a small nonprofit in the Philanthropy & Grantmaking sector that reported $249K in total revenue in fiscal year 2024. Mission

To receive and administer funds for scientific, educational, civic, athletic, patriotic, cultural, social, and charitable purposes, and to more specifically encourage and foster active lifestyles. The primary activity has been the Joplin Memorial Run held each May, and has included a half-marathon, 5K run and kids run in honor of the 161 victims of the May 22, 2011 tornado in Joplin, MO. To date, proceeds in excess of $300,000 has been contributed to local 501 (c) 3 organizations. Active Lifestyle Events will rebrand in 2025 and will continue to encourage and support programs which improve the health and well-being of members of our community yet not forget those lost in 2011. In 2022 a permanent 17-foot sculpture was created in honor of the 161 victims. In 2024 this permanent monument was donated, to another local 501 (c) 3 organization for long-term care as it is constructed on their property. 2025 will be a year of rebranding and moving forward with the mission.

Program Service Accomplishments

Program 1

Expenses: $168,730 Revenue: $0

Joplin Memorial Run general expenses, this includes general operational costs of the event, excluding cash awards, prizes. A full marathon was added in 2016, but just for the 5th anniversary year. In 2017 a relay race was added as well. We change our event to match the ever changing tastes of the running community. 2020 we moved our race to December and greatly reduced our numbers allowed to allow for social distancing and enhanced safety procedures. This allowed our event to safely take place. For 2021, we are back to May races and changed starting line to new location due to large construction project. Start is now in park impacted by 2011 tornado and across from Mercy Park. The Board voted to retire the Joplin Memorial Run as the main activity for Active Lifestyle Events, Inc, making the 2024 race a final event. It was well received and done well. 2025 will see rebranding of the organization and changes in programing which will preserve the mission of honoring the memory of the 161 victims and encourage and support active, healthy lifestyles in the community.
