THIS OLD HORSE, INC. PROVIDES SUPPORT FOR HORSES IN TRANSITION THROUGH OUR RESCUE, RETIREMENT, AND REHOMING PROGRAMS. THIS OLD HORSE, INC. MANAGES AND OPERATES 10 BARNS THROUGHOUT THE LARGER ST PAUL / MINNEAPOLIS METROPOLITAN AREA AND WESTERN WISCONSIN. DURING CALENDAR YEAR 2024, THIS OLD HORSE PROVIDED HUMANE RESCUE, REHABILITATION, LIFELONG SANCTUARY, AND ADOPTION SERVICES FOR 238 HORSES ACROSS OUR 12-SITE SANCTUARY NETWORK IN MINNESOTA AND WESTERN WISCONSIN. OF THESE, 58 WERE NEW INTAKESINCLUDING RETIRED RACEHORSES, OWNER-SURRENDERS, AND HORSES INTERCEPTED FROM AT-RISK SITUATIONS OR KILL-PEN PIPELINES. WE SUCCESSFULLY REHOMED 46 HORSES INTO QUALIFIED ADOPTIVE HOMES, ALL RETAINED UNDER OUR LIFETIME SAFETY-NET CONTRACTS. ON ANY GIVEN DAY, AN AVERAGE OF 202 RESIDENT HORSES RECEIVED INDIVIDUALIZED CARE, ENCOMPASSING VETERINARY TREATMENTS, FARRIER VISITS EVERY SIX WEEKS, AND MORE THAN 2 MILLION POUNDS OF FEED AND FREE-CHOICE HAY. OUR VOLUNTEER CORPS OF 540 COMMUNITY MEMBERS DONATED 23,000 HOURSVALUED AT OVER 1.3 MILLIONTO DAILY CARE, BARN MAINTENANCE, AND EQUINE-ASSISTED LEARNING PROGRAMS. PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDED: RACEHORSE REIMAGINED RETRAINED AND REHOMED 22 OFF-TRACK THOROUGHBREDS @LIBERTY WELLNESS DEVELOPED A 12-WEEK EQUINE-ASSISTED SUPPORT SERIES FOR WOMEN RECOVERING FROM BREAST CANCER. SOUL TRAIN PAIRED 64 VOLUNTEERS WITH SANCTUARY HORSES FOR STRUCTURED GROUND-TRAINING, COMPLETING 3,500 LOGGED SESSIONS THAT IMPROVED ADOPTABILITY SCORES BY AN AVERAGE OF 30%. THIS COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH ENSURED EVERY HORSE RECEIVED COMPASSIONATE STEWARDSHIP WHILE ADVANCING PUBLIC EDUCATION, VOLUNTEERISM, AND RESPONSIBLE EQUINE AFTERCARE.
