SCHOOL & YOUTH GARDENS-Growing healthy food, habitat and kids. School garden program provides students and school communities with an engaging outdoor learning environment where young people can learn to use tools and practice creative problem solving as the urban land stewards of their school campus. Terra BIRDS also gives logistical and project management support so that school gardens can be long term assets within a school. Educational projects include leading 2,102 students at 15 schools in the Flagstaff Unified School District and Coconino County Regional Accomodation School District. School gardening enriches students and connects them to the ecosystems that surround them. Students grew 731 pounds of produce.

BIRDS@WORK JOBS program provided short-term, sustainability-oriented employment, vocational and life skills development and on-the-job training for at-risk youth. In 2023 Terra BIRDS provided temporary jobs, mentorship and networking support to 43 youth interns between the ages of 15 and 21 years old. Terra BIRDS partnered with the following entities to provide job training and in-the-field experiences: County Juvenile Detention Center, Ponderosa High School, City of Flagstaff Community Gardens and the City of Flagstaff. Youth interns provided support to 11 urban and rural farmers in Northern Arizona. Terra BIRDS invests in practical work and life skills development for young people, while simultaneously making improvements towards more sustainable community infrastructure.

COMMUNITY STEWARDSHIP program provided opportunities for 64 Flagstaff gardeners to learn how to grow and harvest food together in community and urban gardens. Terra BIRDS provided support to 3 community gardens by bringing volunteers, students and youth interns to plant and maintain garden beds and pollinator habitat. Produce that was grown was sent home with families or donated to local hunger relief organizations.
