In 2021 MVGATE's newer program CS Is Elementary formerly Family Code Night continued to extend its national reach and impact adding Puerto Rico. CSIE helps schools offer their own Family Code Nights and related K-8 computer science learning programs. It has been featured on the front page of the Sunday New York Times on the White House website and at the 2016 White House Computer Science for All Summit. The program can be run by any school with no special resources or training and at virtually no expense to the school using a CSIE Event Kit created and provided for free by MVGATE or as a Livestream experience offered to many schools and families at once. Thousands of Event Kits have been distributed to principals parents and educators and thousands of Family Code Nights have been held for tens of thousands of participants. During 2021 CSIE continued an effective statewide school-recruitment model with plans to partner with schools districts and scores of states nationwide.

2021 was a challenging year for MVGATE-Core. Its traditional in-person local educational activities both in-school and out-of-school were abruptly ended in March 2020 by California's COVID-19 state of emergency and lockdown. All key partners also suspended in-person operations. Some educational activities did not restart; others moved online. In two cases the move online allowed CORE to expand: its advanced Computer Science summer program serving middle school and high school students added a week-long intensive programming class; and its advanced math program added Marin's only open session of the American Mathematics Competition for high school students.
