On April 4, 2024, over 600 high school students got the chance to practice their interviewing skills with area employers at the Career Connections event! Career Connections helps young people build confidence, gain knowledge about local employment opportunities, and prepare for their future. Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors each experienced 2-3 interviews while at the event. The event was held at Chemeketa Community College. Note: Due to school district budget constraints, less students were able to attend. Heres what student attendees had to say about the event. I would say the best part was the people interviewing me they were kind and had patience with me, and they made me feel more comfortable. Being able to make connections with community members and practicing needed skills. The best part was being able to practice my Spanish with one of the people giving me my interview. Getting comfortable with the interviewers and having good conversations about my future. When the person who interviewed me gave me feedback on how to improve.Employers, representing such industries as Law Enforcement, Healthcare, Nonprofit, Education/Higher Ed, Finance, Insurance, Manufacturing, Fire & Emergency Services, Manufacturing, Hospitality, Tourism, Food & Events, Human Resources/Office Administration, Military, Transportation, and Construction. Heres what employers had to say about the event. One of my favorite events ever, so inspiring to meet our future workforce. We hear so many negative statements about our future workforce and then you get to meet them in person and we discover the future is bright! Wow, what amazing students I got to interview today! We need more of these types of events so that students get to connect with our community and employers. I have been participating in this event for over 10 years now and it is my absolute favorite. I believe it is such an important experience for our students. This important event helped prepare our regions future workforce for positive workplace experiences!
