ASIAN PACIFIC INSTITUTE ON GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE

The Asian Pacific Institute on Gender-Based Violence is a national resource center on domestic violence, sexual violence, trafficking, and other forms of gender-based violence in Asian/Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. Its mission is to disrupt gender-based violence, which causes physical, sexual, emotional, spiritual and economic harm within AAPI communities throughout the U.S. and its territories. To that end, it works together with and within its community to uplift the voices and experiences of AAPI communities impacted by violence, build capacity through training and technical support for organizations serving AAPI communities, engage allied communities and systems to create shifts in gendered cultural norms and address injustices, educate communities to mobilize them to prevent gender-based violence, and advocate for policies and practices that ensure access to essential rights and services. Quick Facts for 2023-2024: 395 participants attended the API-GBV national summit, Growing From Our Roots; 2563 individuals from local, state, national and federal programs attended 37 trainings, workshops, webinars, listening sessions and other community engagement events; 29 technical assistance responses were recorded; 10,093 publications, training materials, webinar recordings, and other products were disseminated online through our website or other online platforms; 3 products and 2 webinar recordings were produced; 72,219 visitors paid 85,995 visits to the website; over 300 technical assistance requests from subgrantees and 4 trainings with 49 attendees.

The Interpretation Technical Assistance & Resource Center (ITARC) works to improve systems responses to LEP victims by providing technical assistance and training on the development and implementation of language access policies and procedures. Technical assistance and training includes, but is not limited to: language and interpreter skill assessment; interpretation and translation procedures; interpreting for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, dating violence, and trafficking ; and building pools of qualified trauma informed interpreters through workshops on interpretation ethics and skills building.Language access training provided to multiple state agencies, including the Kansas, Oregon, Colorado, Wyoming, Washington, New Mexico, Guam domestic violence and sexual assault coalitions; and Utah, Michigan, Hawai'i, Washington, New Mexico state VOCA administrators. Provided training for multiple law enforcement agencies, including Shelby County Sheriff, Memphis PD, and Portland Police Bureau. Facilitated the Healing Across Language training, a 40 hour trauma informed interpreter training curriculum.
