TechCharities receives used computers, rebuilds them, and then provides them to others in need either for free or for a small administrative fee. Some computers are donated by local businesses and schools. Some are purchased from recycling companies that acquire them from school districts. Some computers are sent to students international, mainly in Africa, and some of the computers are given to agencies in Utah who, in turn, provide them for their clients. Some clients come to our office and pick up computers directly. Recently, we have expanded our distribution of computers for those in rural areas of Utah and the homeless. Local foundations and individuals help cover the costs by providing generous financial grants and other support. Clients who are not able to pay a small administrative fee for the device receive the device without charge. This is classified as a grant and it includes the device (such as a laptop) and if needed a small financial grant ($100 to $500) to help the client set up the device, apply for a certificate, or help with schooling expenses.
