RESTORATION: OLYMPIA ECOSYSTEMS (OE) CONTINUED RESTORATION AT ITS LARGEST PRESERVE,THE 428-ACRE DESCHUTES RIVER PRESERVE. OE SMOOTHED A PREVIOUSLY DISTURBED HILLSIDE AND PLANTED WITH NATIVE OAKS AND SHRUBS. OE ALSO CONTINUED TREATMENT OF OVER 80 ACRES OF INVASIVE THISTLE AND BLACKBERRY AND MAINTAINED OVER 10,000 NATIVE WILLOW STAKES AND RIPARIAN TREES TO SUPPORT WETLAND AND SALMON HABITAT. FINALLY, OE WORKED COLLABORATIVELY WITH PARTNERS TO PLAN ADDITIONAL RIPARIAN RESTORATION ACTIONS AND SECURE FUNDING FOR FUTURE RESTORATION OF THE AREA.

RESTORATION: SIMULTANEOUS TO THE DESCHUTES RIVER PRESERVE RESTORATION, OE CONTINUED RESTORATION AT ITS OTHER PRESERVES: COOPER CREST, WEST BAY WOODS, AND GREEN COVE CREEK. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH COMMUNITY MEMBERS, VOLUNTEERS AND THE WASHINGTON CONSERVATION CORPS, OE REMOVED HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF INVASIVE PLANTS ACROSS ALL THREE PRESERVES. AT WEST BAY WOODS, OE IMPROVED NEARLY A MILE OF TRAIL AND CONVERTED AN OLD PARKING LOT INTO A STORMWATER POND SURROUNDED BY HUNDREDS OF NATIVE PLANTS TO SLOW DOWN AND FILTER WATER ON ITS WAY TO THE PUGET SOUND. AT COOPER CREST, OE DESIGNED ANS INSTALLED AN INTERPRETIVE KIOSK IN PARTNERSHIP WITH A LOCAL ARTIST AND EAGLE SCOUTS TO EDUCATE THE COMMUNITY ON THE HISTORY AND ECOLOGY OF THE SITE.
