Public Health Awareness: The National CMV Foundation creates and disseminates evidence-based health education on congenital CMV, including prevention strategies during pregnancy, modes of transmission, potential outcomes, newborn screening, treatment options, and relevant public health policies. Through diverse communication channels, such as web content, email marketing, social media, paid media, print materials, videos, toolkits, educational downloads, and continuing education activities, the Foundation reaches women of childbearing age, families, child care providers, and healthcare professionals nationwide.In 2024, the Foundations advocacy leadership contributed to the introduction of the Stop CMV Act, the first federally coordinated effort aiming to provide funding and incentives to increase screening of newborns for congenital cytomegalovirus.

Community Building: Representatives of the National CMV Foundation hosted a variety of in-person and virtual events designed to strengthen community engagement, raise awareness, and expand advocacy for congenital CMV risk reduction. These gatherings included educational webinars, advocacy trainings, and fundraising events that united families, healthcare professionals, and partners nationwide, building connection, empowerment, and sustained support for those impacted by CMV.

RESEARCH SUPPORT: The National CMV Foundation supports a range of research initiatives and efforts, including workshops and grants for young investigators and early-career researchers studying maternal or congenital CMV infection. Areas of focus include public health, epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, outcomes, basic science, and vaccine development, all aligned with the Foundations mission to promote maternal and newborn health and reduce the incidence of congenital CMV in the United States. Representatives of the National CMV Foundation were also instrumental in securing the FY '24 inclusion of congenital CMV in the Department of Defenses Peer-Reviewed Medical Research Program, opening new opportunities for federally funded CMV research and innovation, totaling over $700,000.
