THE GRANITE MOUNTAIN HOTSHOTS MEMORIAL PARTNERSHIP IS AN INDEPENDENT, NON- PROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT SOLICITED COMMUNITY INPUT TO COMMISSION A JUST AND LASTING MEMORIAL TO THE 19 MEMBERS OF THE GRANITE MOUNTAIN HOTSHOTS WHO LOST THEIR LIVES ON JUNE 30, 2013, WHEN THE YARNELL HILL FIRE THEY WERE BATTLING OVERRAN THEM IN THE DEADLIEST WILDFIRE IN ARIZONA HISTORY. THE PRIMARY MISSION OF THE MEMORIAL PARTNERSHIP IS TO FACILITATE THE CREATION OF A MEMORIAL TO THE FALLEN GRANITE MOUNTAIN HOTSHOTS. IN 2015, THE CITY OF PRESCOTT ENDORSED THE MEMORIAL PARTNERSHIP AS THE DESIGNATED ORGANIZATION TO SELECT AND COMMISSION THE MEMORIAL. THE MEMORIAL PARTNERSHIP BELIEVES THAT ONE OF THE BEST - AND MOST LASTING - WAYS TO HONOR THE FALLEN HOTSHOTS IS TO ESTABLISH A PHYSICAL MEMORIAL, IN AN ACCESSIBLE AND CENTRAL LOCATION IN THE CITY OF PRESCOTT, THAT WILL HELP ENSURE THAT THEIR SACRIFICE, BRAVERY AND DEDICATION WILL BE REMEMBERED BY CURRENT AND FUTURE RESIDENTS AND VISITORS FOR GENERATIONS TO COME. THE YAVAPAI COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS APPROVED 400 SQUARE FEET OF SPACE IN THE SOUTHEAST QUADRANT OF THE YAVAPAI COUNTY COURTHOUSE PLAZA FOR THE MEMORIAL.
