Ride to safety: Families to Freedom provides free car/van rides to arrive at secure domestic violence crisis centers, and rides to relocate to family or to housing far away. We have two Texas offices located in Dallas and Houston serving victims calling from a combined service area of 87 urban and rural counties. In 2024 we transported 1,153 victims and their 1,150 children for a total of 2,303 people. Our volunteers and staff embarked on 1,143 trips arriving to domestic violence shelters, plus 66 road-trips to a family home far away from the victim. Shelter arrivals usually only incur fuel costs while multi-state road trips incur a variety of travel costs (fuel + food + overnight lodging + vehicle maintenance + tolls).

Ticket to Ride: We provided sheltered survivors the means to relocate to family and friends by bus, Amtrak, or commercial flight 102 times in 2024. In addition to purchasing a ticket for long-distance travel, we also provide a free ride to the bus depot or airport (bus tickets + commercial flight tickets + train tickets). For many of our clients we upgraded their luggage from trash bags to suitcases and travel bags donated from the community.

Fuel assistance: Fuel is available for victims and new survivors who have a vehicle but cant afford the cost of gas to drive far away to family members or friends for support after domestic violence or to shelter in another county. We gave 74 fuel cards to new survivors in 2024 who were able to get far away from their abusers. For many of our clients, we also gave them donated food gift cards to help afford meals during their long journey.
