2025 Report of Accomplishments A new executive director/executive editor joined the South Seattle Emerald (the Emerald) in February 2025. New leadership reorganized the production workflow, brought in new contributors, tested out new areas of journalism focus and helped financially stabilize the organization. We also provided our community with 496 articles: News: 178, Arts & Culture: 94, Community: 63, Voices/Opinion: 130, Nearly 37,000 readers each month visited our website to read the news and get updates about Seattle's South End communities. In addition, the Emerald held several successful events: Seattle City Council District 2 candidate debate , Seattle Mayoral debate, King County Executive debate, Annual Community T'Challaween parade, 6 Emerald newsroom pop-ups at local libraries, 2 Emerald "Meet the Artists" conversations at local cafes, Additional Emerald accomplishments included: Welcoming new board member Gabrielle Nomura Gainor Remaking our weekly RoundUp newsletter, which now features original reporting Test driving a printed Emerald magazine by launching two issues Bringing on a new contractor to oversee our social media and manage advertising Launching a weekly South End Life column
