Artist Masterpiece Series II - The highly acclaimed and lauded Artist Masterpiece Series continued in 2023. This was a VAACC hosted seven-part series where renowned artist shared their expertise from concept to completion in their chosen medium through conversation, demonstration and performance. This year, the series kicked off in March, during Women's History Month, with a virtual, yet interactive event with award winning African Storyteller, Playwright, and Producer, Valerie Davis. Ms. Davis uses her talents to teach, African and African American History and to promote awareness of lesser-known historical events and people. The event featured a moderated interview and discussion with the artist reflecting on her career and artistry, as well as a special in-character conversation with Martha Ann Fields, an enslaved woman who escaped slavery in 1863. This specific performance included students from the Virginia Beach Public Schools Diversity Council which gave the performance an inter-generational flair. Series II continued with artist interviews and events in select months through November.
