The Veterinary Innovation Council (VIC) first convened at the NAVC Conference 2016 in Orlando, Florida in January, 2016. The VIC was formed to act as the first veterinary organization that works industry-wide to focus on positive change and push the envelope for innovative solutions across professional boundaries. The program is currently focused on innovation in the area of Telehealth solutions for veterinary practices. In addition, it gathers data to develop awareness of resources available, success stories and toolkits for implementation, and helps to clarify the legislation around Telehealth. It oversees the Veterinary Entrepreneurship Academy that focuses on partnerships between educational institutions, students, and startups. It also oversees the Veterinary Innovation Summit, a three day conference focused on veterinary innovation. The Summit provides education to interested individuals on innovations impacting the veterinary healthcare community. Part of this event also includes the recognition of selected students for their research and ideas for future innovations to improve animal care. The Summit is typically an annual event, however, VIC held two Summit conferences during the year ended September 30, 2024 due to a delay in the 2023 Summit.
