The museum maintains an extensive inventory or period items, costumes, and equipment for use in study and research, demonstrations, and various events. Each item is cataloged and preserved in accordance with current museum standards. These pieces are either displayed for the general public or stored in an appropriate storage facility. Items are cleaned and inspected on a regular basis. Throughout the year the museum hosts fundraising events to help raise funds for operations and maintenance of the costumes and equipment. A few of the key fundraising events in 2023 were the Cowtown 5K Stampede, Cowtown 5k Jailbreak, Melodramas, and Wild West Days. 2023 also saw the completion of the Carriage Works project that provides a climated controlled facility to maintain and display sensitive pieces of the collection.
