WYANDOTTE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL (WYEDC) ANNOUNCED 19 PROJECTS WITH A CAPITAL INVESTMENT OF 863 MILLION AND 2,723 NEW JOBS. THE CAPITAL INVESTMENT IS THE 4TH BEST IN COUNTY HISTORY. THE TEAM SURVEYED 204 COMPANIES AS PART OF ITS BUSINESS RETENTION PROGRAM INDICATING 38% PLAN TO EXPAND WITHIN THE NEXT 3 YEARS. WYANDOTTE COUNTY CONTINUES TO PAY THE HIGHEST WAGES PAID IN THE STATE OF KANSAS. MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD INCOME INCREASED TO 60,582 FALLING ONE SPOT FROM 61ST TO 62ND IN THE STATE. WYEDC CONTINUES TO FOCUS ON RAISING HOUSEHOLD INCOME AND CONNECTING RESIDENTS TO HIGH WAGE JOBS THROUGH ITS WORKFORCE SOLUTIONS EFFORTS. THESE ARE PROGRAMS TIED TO EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION, SECOND CHANCE HIRING, LANGUAGE, POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION, AND TRANSPORTATION. WYEDC STARTED A CAREER PATHWAYS STUDENT TOUR PROGRAM WITH ALL THE HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE COUNTY, VARIOUS WYCO COMPANIES, AND KCK COMMUNITY COLLEGE. A TOTAL OF 344 STUDENTS VISITED 16 COMPANIES AND TOURED THE KCKCC FAME LAB. SIXTEEN STUDENTS ALSO RECEIVED 500 SCHOLARSHIPS TO ATTEND KCKCC. THESE TOURS WERE ALSO IN COLLABORATION WITH KANSAS MANUFACTURING SOLUTIONS AND WORKFORCE PARTNERSHIP. LOOKING INTO 2025, WYEDC EXPECTS GNERAL MOTORS TO COMPLETE ITS CONVERSION TO PRODUCING THE CHEVROLET BOLT, THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS CANCER INSTITUTE WILL BREAK GROUND ON A 500 MILLION FACILITY, AND A NUMBER OF DATA CENTERS ARE EXPECTED TO COME FORWARD GENERATING SIGNIFICANT PROPERTY AND UTILITY SALES TAXES.
