NEIGHBORHOOD LEGAL SERVICES, INC. (NLS) IS A NONPROFIT CIVIL LEGAL SERVICES ORGANIZATION THAT PROVIDES FREE LEGAL ASSISTANCE TO LOW-INCOME INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES, AND PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES ACROSS ERIE, NIAGARA, GENESEE, WYOMING, AND ORLEANS COUNTIES. NLS OFFERS LEGAL ADVICE, REPRESENTATION, ADVOCACY, EDUCATION, AND OUTREACH IN AREAS INCLUDING HOUSING, PUBLIC BENEFITS, FAMILY LAW, DISABILITY BENEFITS, HEALTH CARE ACCESS, AND CONSUMER MATTERS. ITS LARGEST PROGRAM AREA IS HOUSING, WHERE NLS REPRESENTS TENANTS FACING EVICTION, UNSAFE HOUSING CONDITIONS, AND HOUSING DISCRIMINATION, AND PROVIDES EVICTION PREVENTION SERVICES THROUGH INITIATIVES SUCH AS THE WESTERN NEW YORK EVICTION PREVENTION PROJECT. NLS ALSO ASSISTS CLIENTS IN SECURING ESSENTIAL PUBLIC BENEFITS AND HEALTH COVERAGE, SUPPORTS SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND VULNERABLE FAMILIES, AND COLLABORATES WITH HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS THROUGH ITS MEDICAL-LEGAL PARTNERSHIP TO ADDRESS LEGAL ISSUES AFFECTING HEALTH AND STABILITY. OUTREACH INITIATIVES SUCH AS THE JUSTICE BUS, ATTORNEY OF THE MORNING PROGRAM, AND COMMUNITY ECONOMIC AND EQUITY DEVELOPMENT (CEED) PROGRAM EXPAND ACCESS TO LEGAL SERVICES AND STRENGTHEN UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES. THROUGH THESE SERVICES AND PARTNERSHIPS, NLS HELPS CLIENTS PROTECT THEIR CIVIL LEGAL RIGHTS, PREVENT HOMELESSNESS, IMPROVE ECONOMIC SECURITY, AND ENHANCE OVERALL QUALITY OF LIFE, SERVING MORE THAN 15,000 INDIVIDUALS ANNUALLY ACROSS WESTERN NEW YORK.
