THE SOUTHERN MARYLAND SABRES HOCKEY CLUB PROMOTES THE GROWTH OF ICE HOCKEY THROUGH RECREATIONAL AND TRAVEL HOCKEY. THE SOUTHERN MARYLAND SABRES HOCKEY CLUB RECREATIONAL PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE HOCKEY PLAYERS AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN AND DEVELOP SKILLS IN A TEAM SETTING. THE RECREATIONAL PROGRAM IS ALSO DESIGNED TO ASSURE EQUAL OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE FOR ALL SKILL LEVELS. SEVEN RECREATIONAL TEAMS, WITH APPROXIMATELY 15 PLAYERS PER TEAM, PARTICIPATED IN 16 GAMES EACH, AS WELL AS AN END-OF-SEASON TOURNAMENT. THE SOUTHERN MARYLAND SABRES HOCKEY CLUB IS A USA HOCKEY TIER II PROGRAM THAT FIELDS COMPETITIVE TEAMS FROM THE MITE U8 TO THE MIDGET AGE GROUPS. THESE TEAMS PARTICIPATE IN THE CHESAPEAKE BAY HOCKEY LEAGUE. THE LEAGUE IS PART OF THE SOUTHEASTERN DISTRICT OF USA HOCKEY. EIGHT TRAVEL TEAMS, WITH APPROXIMATELY 15 PLAYERS PER TEAM, PARTICIPATED IN 30 GAMES EACH, HALF OF WHICH WERE AWAY GAMES. EACH TRAVEL TEAM ALSO PARTICIPATES IN A TOURNAMENT. ADDITIONALLY, THE CLUB PROMOTES HOCKEY THROUGH LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN WHO ARE NOT ON THE TRAVEL OR RECREATIONAL TEAMS.
