SunAWARE Education Our mission is to prevent skin cancer one child at a time through education and advocacy. To that end, we have taught over one million children and adults through our signature SunAWARE For Life Program, changed laws and saved lives. Given the Covid Pandemic school closings and event cancellations, CMPF has pivoted to revising curriculum, filming video lessons (k-2 and 9-12), and publishing a new edition of Wiseheart Saves the Dawn and filming a companion video. A Curriculum Committee comprised of science, technology, health and library science educators assisted in completely revising the SunAWARE K-12 curriculum. The curriculum was aligned with the CDC's National Health Standards and is cross-curricular, age appropriate, and builds on knowledge over time. This year the SunAWARE Program was delivered by classroom teachers utilizing our online resources. Teacher evaluations of the new SunAWARE lessons were praiseworthy, hailing the videos as "eye opening, engaging, fabulous, packed with information, stimulating, and fun." The Wiseheart Saves the Dawn book was republished with exciting new illustrations and a companion video. The book, as well as all program resources, are available for free download. Educating professionals about sun protection and skin cancer prevention continues to be key in promoting our mission. Ms. Maryellen Maguire-Eisen provided professional programming to hundreds of public health workers, dentists, and nurses this year via Zoom lectures. Ms. Maguire-Eisen was a featured speaker at the Melanoma Action Coalition's Fall meeting. Maura Flynn, SunAWARE Educator, chaired the Melanoma Action Coalition's Advocacy Committee and was Program director for their Fall and Spring conferences.

Advocacy Advocating for laws that will protect children from developing skin cancer is central to our mission and a major service to society. Advocacy can also be at the community level where raising awareness is key to changing behaviors and impacting disease. Our Advocacy Coordinator, Maura Flynn, was actively involved with community advocacy this year as she worked to educate other stakeholders via her work with the National Council for Skin Cancer Prevention and the Melanoma Action Coalition. CMPF partnered with the Nevada Cancer Coalition to provide SunAWARE resources for schools within that state and Karrie Fairbrother, Advisory Council, advocated for melanoma prevention by providing our new online SunAWARE classroom resources to the Montana Cancer Coalition. Pattie Day, Advisory Council, advocated for Sun Safety Awareness in New York State at the Central Valley School District in Ilion/Mohawk and Herkimer BOCES Complex. She advocated by posting SunAWARE banners throughout school yards, playgrounds, and ballfields.

Web Communicating to our stakeholders, followers, and the community at large about sun protection and skin cancer prevention is achieved through our strong Internet presence. Our website clearly describes our mission, impact, what we do, where and when we teach or advocate, as well as how others can help. Gus Naughton, board member and software engineer, provides analytic updates, as well as search engine optimization. Analytics revealed a record number of visitors to our site this year. CMPF has had consistent growth and engagement in its social media program. We have over 20,000 followers on five social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Instagram. Engagement is quite high at over 10%. Our social media consultant, Pam Smith (Creative Pear Marketing & Design) assists in the development of an annual plan and helps create relevant content and infographics to engage the public regarding our educational and advocacy actions.
