THIS SOCIETY IS ORGANIZED AND OPERATED EXCLUSIVELY FOR EDUCATIONAL AND SCIENTIFIC PURPOSES AND FOR NO OTHER PURPOSE. THE OBJECTIVES OF THE CORPORATION, AS EXPRESSED IN THE 1908 CONSTITUTION ARE: THE ADVANCEMENT OF MEDICAL SCIENCE; THE CULTIVATION OF CLINICAL RESEARCH BY THE METHODS OF THE NATURAL SCIENCES; THE CORRELATION OF SCIENCE WITH THE ART OF MEDICAL PRACTICE; THE ENCOURAGEMENT OF SCIENTIFIC INVESTIGATION BY THE MEDICAL PRACTITIONER; AND THE DIFFUSION OF A SCIENTIFIC SPIRIT AMONG ITS MEMBERS. TO THIS END THE SOCIETY PUBLISHES TWO BIOMEDICAL JOURNALS, THE JOURNAL OF CLINICAL INVESTIGATION AND JCI INSIGHT, BOTH PEER-REVIEWED BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH JOURNALS THAT ARE AVAILABLE WORLDWIDE TO MEMBERS AND NON MEMBERS ALIKE, WITH ALL RESEARCH CONTENT FREELY AVAILABLE WITHOUT RESTRICTION OF ANY KIND. THE ASCI IS DEDICATED TO THE ADVANCEMENT OF RESEARCH THAT EXTENDS OUR UNDERSTANDING AND IMPROVES THE TREATMENT OF HUMAN DISEASES, AND MEMBERS ARE COMMITTED TO MENTORING FUTURE GENERATIONS OF PHYSICIAN-SCIENTISTS. THE ASCI CONSIDERS THE NOMINATIONS OF SEVERAL HUNDRED PHYSICIAN-SCIENTISTS FROM THE UNITED STATES AND ABROAD EACH YEAR AND ELECTS UP TO 100 NEW MEMBERS EACH YEAR FOR THEIR SIGNIFICANT RESEARCH ACCOMPLISHMENTS. AN ANNUAL MEETING IS HELD TO HONOR THE NEWLY ELECTED MEMBERS, TO FOSTER THE DIFFUSION OF SCIENTIFIC SPIRIT AMONG MEMBERS, AND TO MENTOR YOUNG INVESTIGATORS.
