IN 2023, PJI CONTINUED TO PARTNER WITH THE MACARTHUR FOUNDATION AND THEIR INITIATIVE THE SAFETY & JUSTICE CHALLENGE- HOSTING ONE IN-PERSON AND ONE VIRTUAL CONVENINGS FOR HUNDREDS OF STAKEHOLDERS WHO ARE WORKING TOGETHER TO RETHINK JAILS AND DECREASE THEIR JAIL POPULATIONS. PJI CONTINUES TO PROVIDE TECHNOLOGICAL AND COMMUNITY MANAGEMENT SUPPORT FOR THE SJCEXCHANGE, THE ONLINE COMMUNITY WHERE STAKEHOLDERS EXCHANGE IDEAS, SHARE BEST PRACTICES, AND CONNECT WITHIN A COMMUNITY OF PRACTITIONERS. PJI PROVIDES TRAINING AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO JURISDICTIONS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. ADDITIONALLY, THROUGH THE CREATION AND DISSEMINATION OF TRAINING AND EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS, COURSES AND EVENTS, PJI PROVIDES EDUCATION TO A VARIETY OF STAKEHOLDERS. THESE RESOURCES EQUIP THE FIELD WITH RELEVANT, PERTINENT INFORMATION, DATA AND ANALYSIS TO BUILD URGENCY, ADVOCACY AND KNOWLEDGE TO SUPPORT PRETRIAL REFORM ACROSS THE COUNTRY. IN JUNE OF 2023 PJI PUBLISHED WILLFUL FLIGHT, A REPORT THAT LOOKS AT THE IMPLICATIONS OF APPLYING THE LEGAL STANDARD OF WILLFUL FLIGHT FROM PROSECUTION VERSUS FAILURE TO APPEAR IN COURT. PJI HOSTED A ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION ABOUT THE PUBLICATIONS AND THE NEXT STEPS FOR THE FIELD. IN OCTOBER 2023 PJI RECEIVED FEDERAL FUNDING TO TEST WILLFUL FLIGHT PILOT POLICY IN A LOCAL JURISDICTION. LASTLY, PJI CONTINUED ITS LOCAL ANTIRACIST PRETRIAL JUSTICE (LAPJ) FRAMEWORK, BRINGING COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND PUBLIC OFFICIALS TOGETHER TO IMPLEMENT DECARCERAL SOLUTIONS ROOTED IN EQUITY, SAFETY AND WELL-BEING. LAPJ IS A HOLISTIC FRAMEWORK THAT ADDRESSES THE SPECTRUM OF PRETRIAL DECISION POINTS, STARTING WITH A PERSON'S CONTACT WITH LAW ENFORCEMENTOR BEING ABLE TO AVOID CONTACTTHROUGH THE DISPOSITION OF THEIR CASE.
