TO PROVIDE AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR LOW INCOME FAMILIES. IN JANUARY OF 1993, MHP TOWN CENTRE, INC. (A CORPORATION WHOLLY CONTROLLED BY MONTGOMERY HOUSING PARTNERSHIP, INC., A 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATION) ACQUIRED TOWN CENTRE INN, A VACANT BOARDED MOTEL, FROM THE RESOLUTION TRUST CORPORATION. THE MOTEL WAS CONVERTED INTO AN AFFORDABLE RENTAL HOUSING DEVELOPMENT WITH A TOTAL OF 74 APARTMENTS. THE DEVELOPMENT WAS COMPLETED IN TWO PHASES: A SMALL 14 UNIT APARTMENT BUILDING LOCATED IN ONE CORNER OF THE SITE WAS REHABILITATED AND OCCUPIED STARTING IN FEBRUARY OF 1994, WITH RENOVATION OF THE MOTEL FORMALLY COMPLETED IN JUNE. FIFTEEN OF THE UNITS IN THE DEVELOPMENT SERVE HOUSEHOLDS WITH INCOMES BELOW 50% OF THE AREA MEDIAN; 21 SERVE FAMILIES WITH INCOMES BELOW 60% OF THE MEDIAN; AND PRIORITY IS GIVEN IN THE REMAINING UNITS TO HOUSEHOLDS WITH INCOMES UNDER 80% OF MEDIAN. MONTGOMERY HOUSING PARTNERSHIP, INC. PROVIDED STAFF TO DEVELOP AND OVERSEE THE MANAGEMENT OF THE PROJECT AND HAS EARNED FEES FOR THESE SERVICES.
