THE MISSION OF THE NEWS LEADERS ASSOCIATION (NLA) IS TO PROVIDE SUPPORT AND TRAINING FOR ALL SORTS OF NEWS LEADERS AT EVERY LEVEL OF AN ORGANIZATION TO BUILD TRUST IN JOURNALISM IN SERVICE OF DEMOCRACY.THROUGH ITS SUPPORT OF THE FIRST AMENDMENT, NLA EMPOWERS NEWS LEADERS TO BUILD DIVERSE, SUSTAINABLE NEWSROOMS THAT USE FACT-BASED INFORMATION TO INFORM AND ENGAGE THE COMMUNITIES THEY REFLECT AND SERVE.

NLA HAD TO CANCEL ITS ANNUAL CONVENTION IN 2022 DUE TO INSUFFICIENT SIGN UPS TO PARTICIPATE AT A TIME THAT THE NEWS INDUSTRY IS EXPERIENCING STRONG FINANCIAL HEADWINDS. NLA RETURNED THE CONFERENCE FEE PAID TO THOSE WHO PLANNED TO ATTEND AND WAS ABLE TO CANCEL MOST FOOD/BEVERAGE AND CONFERENCE CONTRACTS, THOUGH THERE WERE SOME CANCELLATION FEES (MTSU SITE CONFERENCE ROOMS) AND OTHER LOSSES IN DEPOSITS (THE FOOD & DRINK DEPOSIT FOR THE PLANNED RECEPTION AT THE TENNESSEAN).
