Recognizing the vital role that pets play in social wellbeing, Meals on Wheels implemented a new social connection program, PAWS(Pets Aiding the Wellbeing of Seniors) in FY 2023, with grant funding provided by Meals on Wheels America and PetSmart. 65% of participants who benefit from PAWS are low-income, and all of them struggle to make ends meet. In FY 2024, volunteers and staff coordinated the delivery of over 3,000 pounds of pet food, cat litter, puppy pads, and flea/tick collars. MOWC also partnered with area mobile veterinarian Golden Paws, who provided exemplary care, as well as a generous discount on all services. Most pets had not been to the vet in years. Donations and volunteers are needed to sustain this program.
