FNPL purchases books, materials, and support equipment. In 2023, as a result of membership dues, donations, sponsorships, and book sales, FNPL contributed $57,000 to Norfolk Public Library to support its Summer Reading Program for youth and adults. FNPL also purchased new books for four branches and contributed furniture and a Library of Things to two branches.

Each year, the Friends of the Norfolk Public Library conduct an Annual Book Review Contest. In 2023, more than 700 students from Norfolk public, private, and home schools submitted book reviews for judging. From those submissions, the FNPL donates funds for activities planned and conducted by the Norfolk Public Library for a Summer Reading Program for children and adults. In 2023, $2,700 was donated to purchase books that were given to participants in the NPL Summer Reading Supplemental Lunch Program. and paid $600 to pilot a Little Readers Summer Remedial Reading Program.
