THE FAMILY SUPPORT CENTER OF NEW JERSEY (FSCNJ) WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1994 TO PROVIDE INFORMATION AND REFERRAL ON PROGRAMS AND SERVICES TO FAMILIES CARING FOR A CHILD WITH A DISABILITY, MEDICAL CONDITION, RARE DISORDER OR OTHER SPECIAL NEEDS. FSCNJ SUPPORTS FAMILIES WHO ARE EXPERIENCING ISOLATION AND LACK OF INFORMATION OR SEEKING SERVICES AND ASSISTANCE. FSCNJ IS OFTEN THE FIRST-PLACE FAMILIES TURN TO AFTER RECEIVING A DIAGNOSIS OF AN INTELLECTUAL OR DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITY. FSCNJ OPERATES A STATEWIDE TOLL FREE NUMBER (1-800-FSC-NJ10) FOR FAMILY MEMBERS AND PROFESSIONALS LOOKING FOR ACCESS TO A BROAD ARRAY OF SUPPORT SERVICES. FSCNJ ALSO PROVIDES TRAINING ON A VARIETY OF DISABILITY RELATED TOPICS. FSCNJ IS AN AFFILIATE OF THE FAMILY RESOURCE NETWORK WHICH HAS BEEN SUPPORTING PEOPLE WITH EPILEPSY, AUTISM AND OTHER DISABILITIES FOR OVER 49 YEARS. FRN AND ITS AFFILIATES TOUCH OVER 30,000 INDIVIDUALS ANNUALLY. FAMILY SUPPORT CENTER OF NEW JERSEY SIGNIFICANT PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES INCLUDE: ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY AND HOME AND VEHICLE MODIFICATION: ASSISTS FAMILIES THROUGH THE PROCESS OF OBTAINING AND PAYING FOR ASSISTIVE DEVICES, HOME-ENVIRONMENTAL MODIFICATIONS OR VEHICLE MODIFICATIONS. THESE DEVICES HELP PEOPLE LIVE INDEPENDENTLY IN THEIR HOMES AND ALLOW THEM TO NAVIGATE IN THEIR COMMUNITIES, MODIFICATION INCLUDE; ADDING A RAMP TO A HOME, MODIFYING A BATHROOM, OR INSTALLING A LIFT TO A VAN. TRAINING AND WEBINAR CENTER: THE FAMILY SUPPORT CENTER CONDUCTS TRAININGS THAT PROVIDE INFORMATION AND SUPPORT TO FAMILIES OF INDIVIDUALS WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES TO ASSIST THEM IN CONNECTING TO PROGRAMS, SERVICES, AND ACTIVITIES IN THEIR COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT THEIR LIVES. TRAININGS INCLUDE IN PERSON TRAININGS AND WEBINARS. WITHIN TRAINING SESSIONS, FAMILIES ARE EXPOSED TO APPROPRIATE ADVOCACY STRATEGIES AND ARE ENCOURAGED TO DEVELOP A PERSON-CENTERED APPROACH TO PLANNING FOR THEIR LOVED ONE. PROFESSIONAL TRAININGS AND WEBINARS PROVIDE ACCESS TO LEADING PROVIDERS AND EDUCATORS WITHIN THE DISABILITY SECTOR.
