Our mission is to help parents homeschool with confidence and joy. We do this by working to (1) Protect the rights of North Carolina citizens to homeschool, (2) equip families with the information and encouragement they need, and (3) connect families with other homeschooling families and groups across the state.

NCHE's annual conference offers seminars, instructional resources, access to college recruiters and trades representatives (a "college & trades fair"), along with a high school graduation ceremony to support the homeschooling community. In 2025 the conference had 90 educational seminars conducted by 70 speakers. In addition, 31 vendor workshops were put on by some of our 107 vendors to familiarize potential, new, and continuing home educators, as well as the homeschooled teens, with valuable information and available materials and techniques. The conference was attended by 4,063 people representing 1,409 families. In addition, 225 graduates and their families and friends took part in high school graduation ceremonies.

The NCHE Athletic Commission organizes and administers regular season leagues and post-season tournaments in the traditional high school sports. These teams compete against other homeschool, private school, and public-school teams. Sports covered typically include Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Fencing, Golf, Soccer (Boys and Girls), Swimming, and Volleyball. In 2025 NCHE provided opportunities for 148 teams and 1,912 student athletes in nine different sports.

NCHE organizes numerous educational activities such as field trips and chess tournaments. In addition, NCHE awards scholarships to graduating seniors each year. In 2025, 18 field trips and activities provided educational opportunities for over 3,100 attendees. NCHE also awarded $9,000 in scholarships to five graduating seniors who excelled in the areas of academics, the arts, community service, sports, and missions.
