Founded in 1988, Habitat for Humanity of Gaston County (Habitat Gaston) is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit and an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a widely respected global brand. Habitat Gaston partners with families in the low-income range of 30- 60% of area median income to make the dream of homeownership a reality. We break down the barriers to obtaining a mortgage such as poor credit, lack of a down payment and consumer debt that prevent low-income families from obtaining credit. Through this partnership, families purchase a home they can afford on the wages they make. Homeownership enables families to thrive, build a financial asset and escape generational poverty. The ReStore program provides opportunities for future homeowners to accomplish required sweat equity hours. By accepting over 3,500 donations of gently used goods, we diverted over 367,430 lbs. of materials from landfills. Customers purchased economical goods and materials that helped us accomplish our mission to build simple, decent homes for partner families.Habitat for Humanity of Gaston Countys Home Repair Program provides home repair services to existing homeowners in the 30-60% of AMI in order to create a safe, decent home environment for low income homeowners. This allows families to maintain their homeownership and contributes to stable communities, leading to a stronger Gaston County.
