The Organization continued filming the docu-series Our Humanity with Thomas LaVeist.OUR HUMANITY is a timely docu-series discussing the most pressingissues of representation, inclusivity and justice around Black, Brown, andIndigenous Health. Each 30-minute episode, brings together experts, scientists, influencers, and survivors engaged in an urgent andunapologetic dialogue on issues ranging from genetic history, structuralracism in healthcare, Black maternal mortality, and the existential neglect of the marginalized.Systemic racism can be defined as an institutionalized malpractice if youlook at the statistics in Black maternal mortality, or the chronic disconnectand distrust between medical professionals and non-white patients. Thisdisparity is part of a larger problem: an African American or Latina mothernot receiving accurate care, has similar root cause as Serena Williams one of the most prolific and gifted athletes of our time being forced to withstand personal attacks and body shaming throughout her entire career. This bigger-picture pervasive bias, trickles down into the most intimate andvital aspect of our humanity: our bodies, our health. The Organization also developed and implemented Building Bridges: The Power of the Human Spirit a Workshopdeveloped for Kaiser Permanente Difference Maker Conference. This workshop is designed to engage, elevate, and inspire us all to actionto harness the power and potential we each possess to be a Difference Maker right where we are.Consider Mahatma Ghandi, Nelson Mandela, Benazir Bhutto, Jane Adams, Patsy Mink, and Wendy Red Starr. All of them were Difference Makers. They amplified the power of the human spirit and left . Today, as you journey through this workshop experience you will hear several stories. Each of the individuals telling these stories is unique. They will share stories from their own experiences. As we reflect on these stories, I inviteyou to consider where you might find yourself in each of them. The power of a Difference Maker is also the power of a Story Teller. We can all be a Difference Maker and leave an imprint on someone elses story or we useour own story to transform our family, our community, or even the world.
