2024 was a productive year for Preserve the Burg. Despite two major hurricanes that severely impacted our city in September and October, Preserve the Burg still managed to host 33 public programs, including 22 walking tours, 5 porch parties, 3 PlaceMatters lectures and the Preservation Expo. We also published Keeping the Vibe Alive: Historic Preservation in St. Petersburg, the first-ever empirical study on the qualitative and quantitative impact of historic preservation in St. Petersburg. At the close of 2024, the City Council voted to create the Mirror Lake Local Historic District, the culmination of several years of working with local neighborhood representatives to create such a district.
