It is with a heavy heart that after more than 42 years, Southwest Social Services Programs, Inc. (SWSS) provided its last meal service on Friday, May 24, 2024. This came after a herculean effort on the part of SWSS to come into contractual terms with Greater Miami Caterers (GMC). The unprecedented payment terms currently being required by GMC in order for them to continue to provide meals was unsustainable. SWSS did not have the financial viability to continue to pay GMC $30,000 weekly without impacting its ability to meet payroll and its other monthly financial obligations (i.e., rents, utilities, liability insurance, etc.). Consequently, SWSS had no other option but to cease operations and permanently close its doors as previously stated above. Due to the important responsibility of not interrupting its meal service to its clients, SWSS in cooperation with the Alliance for Aging, carefully transferred its meal service program and clients to the hands of Independent Living Systems (ILS) without any client missing a single meal. SWSS is extremely proud of having had the privilege to serve the elderly community of South Florida for more than 42 years.
