Athletic & Sports Programs: The Jacksonville Sports Medicine Program (JSMP) in Jacksonville, Florida, is a volunteer-based organization that advocates for youth sports injury prevention. The Jacksonville Sports Medicine Program is a community healthcare collaborative, non-profit organization that works with coaches, doctors, other healthcare professionals, parents and other community members interested in making sports safer. The program provides schools with education, prevention tactics and advocates for the inclusion of licensed athletic trainers within youth sporting organizations, programs and events. This program has been actively serving our community for more than 39 years. Jacksonville Sports Medicine Program is supported by: Wolfson Children's Hospital, Nemours Children's Health System, the Duval County Medical Society, Brooks Rehabilitation and the Duval County Public Schools. The JSMP is dedicated to youth sports safety through awareness, advocacy and injury prevention. Physician members of JSMP volunteered more than 450 hours of service as team physicians for community schools. Using a conservative volunteer hour value in Florida of $250.00/hr. physician service, the estimated cash value of the volunteer hours provided exceeded $112,500. In 2023, Educational programming consisted of, our 13th Annual Symposium, & the 6th Annual Emergency Preparations course and a high school student's healthcare symposium, the total attendance for these events is summarized in the program's summary below. 2023 programs summary Symposium Total: 202 Participants Symposium Total CEU's: 1522 hours/credit This year JSMP trained more than 162 coaches in sports injury safety programs with a value of more than $30,000. 57 high school students participated in an 8 hour hands on course designed for students interested in pursuing healthcare careers and advanced education. In 2023, the JSMP published 37 educational podcasts dedicated to community awareness of sports safety and injury prevention. Throughout the year, the JSMP provided leadership over 30,243 clinical encounters for sports injuries, over 2,726 follow up assessments generating 454 referrals to community physicians for 381 heat related injuries and 160 sports related concussions. More than 14,000 youth student-athletes benefit from the program including 8,526 high school students and 5,652 middle school students.
