THE SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE MEETS AND THE APPLICATIONS ARE DIVIDED BETWEEN THE BLIND STUDENTS AND THE DEAF STUDENTS SINCE WE AWARD SIX SCHOLARSHIPS TO EACH FOR A TOTAL OF TWELVE. THE APPLICATIONS ARE THEN NUMBERED. THE SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE HAS TWO TALLY SHEETS, ONE FOR BLIND STUDENS AND ONE FOR DEAF STUDENTS. EACH APPLICATION IS REVIEWED FOR FINANCIAL NEED, VOLUNTEER HOURS AND STATEMENT OF PURPOSE. A SCORE IS GIVEN TO EACH ITEM FROM ONE TO TEN, TEN BEING THE HIGHEST SCORE. AFTER ALL APPLICATIONS HAVE BEEN REVIEWED BY THE COMMITTEE, THE TALLY SHEETS ARE TOTALED AND THE APPLICANTS ARE RANKED BY THE CUMULATIVE SCORE AND THE TOP SIX BLIND APPLICANTS AND THE TOP SIX DEAF APPLICANTS ARE AWARDED NON-RENEWABLE $1000 SCHOLARSHIPS. THE LIONS ALSO PROVIDES ADDITIONAL FUNDING TO ST JOHNS COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT EARMARKED TO PROVIDE SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE AND GUARANTEEING COLLEGE-LEVEL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR UNDERPRIVELEGED INDIGENT STUDENTS IN ST JOHNS COUNTY.
