FIT 4 LIFE IS A WEEKLY FITNESS AND WELLNESS PROGRAM WHICH ENCOURAGES EXERCISE AND HEALTHY EATING HABITS. WHILE INDIVIDUALS WITH DD ARE MORE LIKELY TO BE OBESE, TO HAVE DIABETES AND HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE THEY ENGAGE IN EXERCISE AND OTHER HEALTHY BEHAVIORS LESS FREQUENTLY THAN INDIVIDUALS WITHOUT DISABILITIES. RAD OR RECREATION FOR ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES IS A FREE SUMMER PROGRAM THAT RUNS FIVE DAYS PER WEEK AND SERVES MORE THAN 30 FAMILIES. THE SCHOOL YEAR COMES TO AN END AND MANY BROWARD COUNTY RESIDENTS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES (DD) ARE LEFT WITH NOTHING TO DO DURING THE DAY. MANY OF THEIR PARENTS WOULD HAVE TO MISS WORK IN ORDER TO STAY HOME WITH THEIR ADULT CHILDREN WHO CANNOT REMAIN AT HOME INDEPENDENTLY. THE RAD SUMMER PROGRAM EASES THE BURDEN ON FAMILY MEMBERS AND ENSURES THAT INDIVIDUALS WITH DD DO NOT LANGUISH AT HOME BUT ARE OUT IN THE COMMUNITY AS ACTIVE PARTICIPANTS IN ALL THAT BROWARD COUNTY HAS TO OFFER.
