House New York (HNY) provides education, research, and advocacy targeted at improving the lives of low-income affordable housing tenants. Most recent efforts have been focused on digital equity programs that bring low-cost fiber, cable, WiFi and cellular service to low-income populations in New York State. In partnership with several grant funders, HNY launched the Community Classrooms program providing virtual classroom space to low-income students who were schooling at home during the pandemic. Simultaneously, in New York City, the organization established a prequalified list of broadband providers willing to retrofit affordable housing with no-cost high-speed broadband infrastructure to building owners and low-cost monthly broadband service to tenants.
